Micah Spear (b. 1988) is a cross-disciplinary artist and designer. His career has spanned travel photography, interior architecture, fashion consulting, service design, and brand strategy. Past clients have included MTV, Facebook, and Microsoft. At present, he focuses exclusively on art, experiential design and often collaborates with others. This April 2017, his work, Ø, featuring small-scale resin sculptures of burnt currency, a short film, series book and music release will be exhibited as a solo show at SO1 gallery in Harajuku, Tokyo.
Spear studied fine art at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore in 2007. He moved to New York in 2008 to pursue a double major (BA/BFA) at Parsons The New School for Design and Eugene Lang The New School for Liberal Arts, where his concentration was integrative design and environmental studies. While at Parsons, Spear started Playtime Collective, a branding and design shop. Spears’ work as a creative attracted the notice of Fast Company who engaged him as a contributing writer and design expert in their Creative Brain Trust in 2013. In 2014, Micah started Sightful, a design and culture change consultancy. By 2015, Spear created conceptual art projects including an imaginary New York Space Academy in the form of NASA style patches, pins, and streetwear.
Spear is curious about super normal objects, loves natural materials, passionately explores japanese tea culture, and lives between New York City and Tokyo.
